The Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG) is Austria's central institution for application-oriented basic research. Founded in 1988, it bridges academia and industry through two funding programmes: Christian Doppler Laboratories hosted at universities and research institutions, and Josef Ressel Centres at universities of applied sciences. Research groups at these units work on business-relevant questions with direct industry involvement — co-financed by the Federal Ministry, the Austrian National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development, and participating companies. Since 2021, the CDG has been formally established as a central federal research funding body under Austria's Research Financing Act.
