e5-Gemeinden/AEA

TYPO3 platform for the Austrian Energy Agency's e5 programme — including a custom Extbase extension powering the Best Practice municipality directory.

back to overview

The e5 programme is Austria's yardstick for climate-conscious municipalities: the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA) certifies communities on a five-step scale — from one to five e-levels — and supports them in making progress on climate protection measurable. Currently 287 municipalities and cities from six federal states participate, ranging from small rural communes to state capitals. An interactive map and a Best Practice database make every participant's journey publicly visible and easy to explore.

  • TYPO3 relaunch of the bilingual platform (DE/EN) for the Austrian Energy Agency
  • Custom Extbase extension for the Best Practice municipality section: structured data management, filterable listings, and dedicated detail pages for each project
  • Interactive municipality map visualising all 287 participating communities
  • Editorial workflow supporting federal-to-regional coordination: centrally managed content with regional differentiation
  • Citizen-facing service layer — certification information, downloadable resources and contact channels clearly structured
  • SEO for government sites — programme content discoverable by municipalities considering joining the e5 network

The result is a platform that puts municipal climate action on the map — literally. The custom Extbase extension built with rockit is the centrepiece: it brings structure to a volume of data that standard CMS tools simply couldn't handle at scale.
