FÄKT – Accessibility Audit

FÄKT — Home of Science is an initiative of the Austrian Academy of Sciences that produces research-backed science videos for lower-secondary classrooms, distributed via YouTube, edutube, Instagram and TikTok. Hosts like Miso and Julia present work by researchers from physics, biology, computer science, environmental and social sciences. To make sure the programme reaches every student, FÄKT commissioned rockit for an independent WCAG 2.2 accessibility audit of the website.

• Full manual review against the WCAG 2.2 success criteria at Level AA
• Keyboard-only walkthrough complemented by the NVDA screen reader
• Automated scans with axe and WAVE alongside the manual pass
• Contrast analysis of all text and UI elements with the WebAIM Color Contrast Checker
• Section-by-section coverage: site-wide structure, home page sliders, video content, lightbox
• Each observation rated for severity and remediation effort

The PDF report compiled by rockit gives FÄKT a comprehensive document: every improvement opportunity laid out with a description of the issue, the corresponding WCAG success criterion, severity rating and a concrete solution suggestion including code snippets and links to the relevant W3C techniques — the foundation for the accessibility statement required under the Austrian Web-Zugänglichkeits-Gesetz and a clear implementation roadmap for the editorial team and developers.
