gc-architektur

Portfolio site for Vienna architecture practice gc-architektur: a JavaScript one-page site replacing the old Flash navigation, with image preloading.

back to overview

When gc-architektur — the Vienna architecture practice run by Arch. DDI Roman Gecse and Arch. DI Bertram Chiba on Neubaugasse — set out to refresh its web presence, the existing Flash site had reached the end of the line: no search-engine visibility, no mobile support, no future. A portfolio site, though, lives on quiet imagery, smooth transitions and visitors who don't have to install a plug-in just to see the work.

  • Replacement of the legacy Flash site with a lean JavaScript one-page solution
  • Background image preloading for clean, jitter-free transitions between projects
  • Soft navigation and subtle animation that preserves the feel of the Flash predecessor
  • A focused portfolio: projects, office, contact — all on a single page, short routes
  • Reduced, calm visual language that puts the architecture firmly in the foreground
  • HTML5 and JavaScript instead of Flash — no plug-in lock-in, indexable for search engines

The site rockit built gave the architecture practice gc-architektur a web presence that feels like the old Flash site — only without its drawbacks. The one-page structure fits the compact portfolio of a small studio, and the move away from Flash kept the site viable for years to come. Today, gc-architektur runs the site on its own platform.
