„Österreich radelt" – formerly „Radelt zur Arbeit" (Cycle to Work) – is Austria's nationwide cycling campaign, run by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection (BMK) through its klimaaktiv mobil initiative, in partnership with all nine federal states and Radlobby Österreich. Every year from mid-March through September, the campaign encourages people to swap their car commute for a bike: participants join teams, log their kilometres, and compete for prizes. When the campaign was still called „Radelt zur Arbeit", more than 40,000 cyclists were already taking part – and rockit delivered the technical backbone: a TYPO3 multisite built from day one to scale across every Austrian federal state.
- TYPO3 multisite platform, individually adapted for each of the nine federal states
- Live data integration with the Bikecitizen app for real-time kilometre tracking
- Integrated news system per state for regional announcements, events, and competitions
- Highly personalised newsletter: automatically populated with user data pulled from the app
- Delivery via rockit's own newsletter tool
- Scalable architecture: one shared backend, nine independent editorial instances
- GDPR-compliant user management for participant accounts
What started as a targeted climate-action campaign has grown into a permanent, nationwide movement – logging over 150 million kilometres and reaching new commuters and everyday cyclists every year. The campaign platform now runs under „Österreich radelt" at radelt.at, still powered by the technical foundation rockit built from the start.
