Balancing a degree or an academic career with parenting or caring for a family member is not a niche situation — it is everyday life for a significant share of Austria's university community. UniKid-UniCare Austria has been addressing this reality since 2004, when it started as a network of childcare coordinators at Austrian universities. Today it unites 21 member universities under a shared university support service, covering virtually every public higher-education institution in the country. The platform serves students with children, students managing caring responsibilities for relatives, and university staff juggling professional and care duties — people for whom the university day is a constant act of coordination.
- Central contact-point directory: all 21 member universities with their dedicated advisors in one place
- Childcare overview: university-run childcare facilities for children of students and staff
- Care counselling: information and contacts for staff and students with caring responsibilities for relatives
- Networking meetings: a protected space for family caregivers across Austrian universities to share experiences
- Event series "CAREseiten zeigen": a cross-university online programme covering childcare, eldercare and mental health
- Event calendar with announcements and retrospectives from across the network
- TYPO3 multisite structure: one shared editorial backend serving all university locations
Built with rockit, the TYPO3 platform turns a distributed expert network into a single, navigable digital home — so anyone combining care and academia can find the right contact at their university without trawling through a dozen separate websites.
